Nestled within the tranquil North Yorkshire countryside near Leyburn, Unthank Farm is surrounded by picturesque farmland, dry stone walls and arguably some of the best views in the Dales.

The area is very peaceful, with plenty of public footpaths ideal for relaxed strolls through fields and winding lanes.

Nearby villages and market towns including Bedale and Leyburn boast traditional pubs, shops and local markets, whilst popular visitor spots like Harmby Waterfall and the Yorkshire Dales National Park are only a short drive away – great if you’re a keen hiker or cyclist.

Bedale is a charming traditional market town on the edge of the Yorkshire dales, known for its friendly atmosphere and historic character. Its wide Georgian high street is lined with shops, cosy cafes and local pubs, making it perfect for a relaxing wander. The town hosts a weekly market every Tuesday.

Local Auction Mart

 Leyburn Auction Mart is a long-established livestock market that has been at the heart of the local farming community since 1918. Situated in the centre of this traditional Yorkshire Dales market town, it hosts regular weekly sales of cattle, sheep and calves, attracting farmers, buyers and visitors from across the region.

Known as the “gateway to Wensleydale,” Leyburn offers a delightful blend of independent shops, traditional pubs, and a bustling market square that has been at the heart of the community for centuries.

The Friars Head Bar & Restaurant 

Set within the scenic grounds of Akebar Park near Leyburn, The Friars Head is a stylish pub and restaurant combining traditional Yorkshire charm with a modern dining experience. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, quality food and local ales, it’s a popular spot for both locals and visitors exploring Wensleydale.

The venue has evolved into a wider leisure destination, now benefiting from an on-site 18-hole golf course and newly added padel tennis courts, offering guests even more ways to relax and stay active during their visit.

The Queens Head

The Queen’s Head, Finghall is a traditional Yorkshire Dales country inn set in the quiet village of Finghall, just a short drive from Leyburn. Dating back to the 1700s, it combines historic charm—such as exposed beams and open fires—with modern comfort following recent refurbishment.

The pub offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a strong focus on locally sourced, home-cooked food and a good selection of ales, making it popular with both locals and visitors. With comfortable rooms, scenic views over Lower Wensleydale, and a relaxed, family-run feel, it’s an ideal stop for those exploring the surrounding countryside.

The Wyvill Arms 

Set in the picturesque village of Constable Burton near Leyburn, The Wyvill Arms is a charming 18th-century former farmhouse that now operates as a welcoming pub, restaurant and boutique inn. Positioned on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, it offers a peaceful rural setting with beautiful countryside views.

Known for its cosy atmosphere, the inn features traditional interiors with exposed beams and log fires, alongside a restaurant focused on fresh, locally sourced produce, including meats, fish and herbs grown on-site.

Thorp Perrow 

Thorp Perrow Arboretum is one of the finest collections of trees and shrubs in the north of England, set within a beautiful 100-acre parkland near Bedale. Originally created in 1931, it is home to thousands of species, including several National Plant Collections and many rare and champion trees.

Today, it offers much more than woodland walks, with a popular Bird of Prey and Mammal Centre, seasonal events, and family-friendly trails throughout the year. Visitors can also enjoy a tearoom, garden centre and peaceful surroundings, making it a great day out for all ages in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside.
