For those of you who like to know what’s happening on the farm, it’s been a busy few weeks!
We’re pleased to say we’ve now finished this year’s harvest. It’s always one of the busiest times of the year, and we’re thankful the weather stayed on our side. The fields around the farm have now been harvested, leaving some beautiful open views across the Yorkshire countryside for everyone staying with us. If you have stayed with us you may have also seen the young heifers out grazing in the fields and they are doing really well this summer. Our Pygmy goats Clover & Fern are as mischievous as ever and have been an entertainment for some guests as they like to put on a show from time to time! Finally we have had some new baby chicks hatched out too, if you would like to see them, just ask us and we will happily give you a tour!
If you’re visiting in August, there are plenty of local events to enjoy. The Wensleydale Railway is running family activity days throughout the month, including Dinosaur Day, Engines Up Close and a Teddy Bears’ Picnic – perfect for a fun day out. The Wensleydale Agricultural Show also takes place on Saturday 29th August, with livestock, vintage machinery, local food, shopping and entertainment for all the family. A day not to be missed!
For those music lovers, there’s also Cover-Fest at The Coverbridge Inn on the 30th August. It’s a great chance to enjoy some live music, a few drinks and a relaxed afternoon or evening with friends. If you’re staying with us over the Bank Holiday weekend, it could be the perfect excuse to head over and enjoy some live music while soaking up the local atmosphere. You do need a ticket which can be purchased at the pub.
For those looking for something a little different during their stay The Friars Head have plenty happening throughout August. There’s live music on Saturday evenings, including NERD on 1st August, Jisum on 15th, Broken Biscuits on 22nd and Two Well Worn on 29th August. There’s also the Akebar Dog Show on the 8th of August, with a range of fun classes for dogs and their owners. It’s a lovely local spot for an evening of food, drinks and entertainment, and well worth a visit while you’re staying with us.
If you’re thinking of visiting us over the August Bank Holiday, we’d recommend booking soon as we’re filling up quickly. We still have a few pitches available, but they’re going fast, so don’t miss out on a relaxing break in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Also keep a close eye out for our flash sale discounts which pop up quiet often!
We look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests to Unthank Farm. See you soon!
